Are Drugs Really The Way To Go For ADHD?

Over the past few months, I’ve produced several articles for the blog MindBodyGreen, a fantastic resource for anyone interested in learning more about topics and information pertaining to wellness.  You can find a completing listing of the articles I’ve written here on my website, but one in particular, published just last week, stirred up quite a conversation on social media.

ADD/ADHD is an increasingly prevalent condition, one which the CDC recently said had been diagnosed in 11% of school-age children. As I note in my article, for the sake of comparison, we’re talking about a population the size of Kentucky. As a practicing neurologist, I have first-hand experience with some of these cases, and it’s clear to me that many of these children will do better in personal and academic settings when medication is present. However, this group represents a small minority. In fact, we are frequently over-diagnosing ADD/ADHD and overlooking the causes that could be at the root of what’s causing these behavioral problem. I discuss this issue in-depth in Grain Brain, and I encourage you to visit MindBodyGreen and read my article and form your own opinion on this somewhat controversial subject matter.
