Today’s interview is with a very good friend, Nora Gedgaudas. Nora is one of the most respected authorities on ketogenic, ancestrally-based nutrition for whole-body, optimum health. Using her deep understanding of science and 30+ years of relentless research and 20 years of clinical application, Nora successfully connects the dots to real, lasting results where others fall prey to the latest fads and misquoted studies.
Nora is the author of the international best-selling book, Primal Body, Primal Mind which was certainly a game changer for me. Over the years I have purchased this book by the caseload to give out to patients and friends. Continue reading
Leading up to my decision to take back control of my health, I was diagnosed with myriad health problems that, if I didn’t make a change, could have debilitated me for the rest of my life. Collectively, I was diagnosed with metabolic syndrome (hyperinsulinemia), benign fasciculation syndrome (BFS), celiac disease, atherosclerosis, focal seizures of the temporal lobe (affecting memory), and severe twitching.
Fast forward to several months, and now years, later, and after embracing a Paleo diet and making the lifestyle changes I needed to, I’ve now lost 180lbs, and seen my life turn almost entirely upside down, but for the better. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
Last month, you may have seen a post on my Facebook page about an interview I had done with Medscape. A few weeks later, the interview was made available to the general public on WebMD. The main focus of the interview was to allow me to explain how and why gluten and carbohydrates represent such a powerful threat to the human brain.
Now that the article has had a chance to disseminate across the internet, I’ve seen a flood of comments from medical practitioners, industry experts, and interested individuals, asking questions, providing anecdotal evidence, offering support, and much, much more. So, I wanted to take an opportunity to acknowledge some of these comments, offer thanks, and provide some answers. (All comments sourced from the posting on Medscape).
In May of 2012 I was diagnosed was a Meningioma brain tumor following a paralyzing, 15-minute seizure from the waist down on my left side. My tumor is located in my right frontal lobe, posterior. Due to vascular involvement, I was placed on anti-seizure meds and am currently on watch and wait. In the fall of 2012 my youngest son researched paleo diets and we have been following a low carb lifestyle ever since. Not only have we both lost significant weight and inches, my tumor has shrunk along with me in the two subsequent MRI scans in 2012 – 2013. My neuro-oncologist is amazed!
After reading your book, I feel confident that I can continue to positively turn my situation around. Presently I am working on adding the various supplements mentioned in the book. I have a doctor’s appointment coming up and plan on having blood work done as Grain Brain suggested.
How committed are you to the Grain Brain lifestyle? Look what I found at this market in San Francisco, and see if you think you would enjoy having this for lunch or dinner.
