The Empowering Neurologist – David Perlmutter, MD and Dr. Bruce Blumberg

Today’s Empowering Neurologist interview is with Dr. Bruce Blumberg, author of the new book, The Obesogen Effect.

Being overweight is not just the result of diet or not enough exercise. According to leading-edge science, there are silent saboteurs in our daily lives that contribute significantly to our obesity epidemic: obesogens. These weight-inducing offenders, most of which are chemicals, disrupt our hormonal systems, alter how we create and store fat, and change how we respond to dietary choices. Because they are largely unregulated, obesogens lurk all around us: in food, furniture, plastic products such as water bottles and food storage containers. Research has even shown that the effects of some obesogens can be passed on to future generations by irreversibly interfering with the expression of our genes. The good news is we can protect ourselves by becoming more informed consumers.

In THE OBESOGEN EFFECT, Dr. Bruce Blumberg describes how obesogens work, reveals where they are found, and offers a practical three-step solution for reducing exposures. He explains why one size does NOT fit all in a weight loss program, what hides in our household goods, and how we should shop for items we buy every day, from vegetables and meats to canned soup and household cleaners, air fresheners and personal care products. THE OBESOGEN EFFECT is an urgent call to action to protect your body, clean up your life, and set a straight course for better health.

He spoke of a “normal diet” a couple of times.
What does he think that is? Also he said the
mice got fat on “high fat diets”. How does
    that relate to humans?

    • Britt Guthrie Ammann

Humans usually lose weight on high fat diets- the ketogenic effect

This interview was very enlightening, and saddening.

    • David Perlmutter

A story that must be shared.

  • Anja Baumhoff

    Dear Dr. Perlmutter,
many thanks for all your work – it is very useful. My question concerns Alzheimers: I have been found to have a very high level of aluminum in my blood serum. This seems to be one of the key factors to contribute to Alzheimers. Can you tell me if there is a way to get rid of it?
    Kind regards
    Anja B.

  • Anja

    Dear Dr. Perlmutter,

please, do not post my whole name! I need to stay anonymous. Sadly I cannot find a function to delete my post. Would you please do this for me. Many thanks.
    Kind regards

    Anja
